The county is home to quiet small towns such as La Plata, where tree-lined streets link apartments, shops and offices. There are also fashionable suburbs such as Waldorf and St. Charles that have comfortable homes, bustling office parks and shopping centers, good schools and safe streets.

This is a community rich in character. The county is steeped in more than 350 years of history with native sons as diverse as Thomas Stone, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and Joel and Benji Madden, the founders of the rock band Good Charlotte.
